THE PHENOMENON OF AN INTERLINGUAL HOMONYMY IN ENGLISH Verigo Catherine Confusing words or interlingual homonyms - are words, which sound the same in two languages, but do not have the same spelling or meaning in both. Confusing words can lead to the misunderstanding and the translation of the text [2]. At any stage of studying of English you will surely meet the phenomenon of an interlingual homonymy. Such words are like traps both for beginners to study language and for translators. Studying of interlingual compliances of homonymous character, and also lexical interference caused by them, is especially actual in modern conditions of language contacts growth and interesting for linguistics [1]. To improve the quality of the translation and avoid false analogy while learning foreign languages, more and more bilingual dictionaries of pseudoequivalents have recently appeared, that proves the importance of this problem for the linguistics and the theory of the translation.
