The extract I would like to speak about is taken from the story Lumber-room by Hector Munro, a British novelist best known for his short stories. He had a pseudonym Saki. The story is about a naughty boy, who misbehaves and as a result his aunt punishes him - she doesn’t allow him to go to the sands at Jagborough with other children. That is what the boy tries to achieve. He makes his aunt think that he would go to a gooseberry garden and sneaks into the forbidden lumber-room. The story is written from the third person. The general atmosphere can be characterized as humorous, sarcastic in some moments, emotional. The stress reaches the climax at the moment when the boy enters the lumber-room and looks at the picture, trying to solve the decision for the man on this picture, surrounded by wolves. The abstract under analysis presents a piece of description and narration. But the text is not homogeneous: the authors narration is interrupted by the inner monologues of characters.
