The article deals with the social-economic factors of the spread of social orphanhood, among which economic and social factors are dominant, namely: economic factors are the financial difficulties of families raising children; growth of unemployment; deterioration of the functioning of state institutions, which are meant to engage in upbringing, education of children; deterioration of children’s catering conditions in state institutions. The article also defines the peculiarities of the development of orphans and children deprived of parental care, forms of functioning of the state system of education and upbringing of orphans are disclosed, special attention is paid to family forms of custody. The psycho-pedagogical conditions for effective upbringing of children-orphans in family-type orphanages are determined, which are related to constructing relationships between parents-educators and a pupil within the framework of positive child-parenting aid discourse; the inclusion of pupils of a family-type orphanage into creative interaction with the surrounding world; providing opportunities for independent decision-making of subjective significance and the implementation of one’s own choice by pupils of the orphanage as well as a number of characteristics of the behavior of parent-caregivers. It is determined that family forms of upbringing of orphan children and children deprived of parental care are understood as normatively entrenched and state-controlled forms of organization of life of orphans and children deprived of parental care in families of citizens whose main goal is the upbringing of a child.Також ми вважаємо, що соціальне виховання дітей-сиріт у дитячому будинку сімейного типу буде ефективним під час реалізації психолого-педагогічних умов, повязаних з конструюванням відносин між батьками-вихователями і вихованцем у рамках позитивного дитячо-батьківського дискурсу допомоги; включенням вихованців дитячого будинку сімейного типу у творчу взаємодію з навколишнім світом; наданням можливостей для самостійного прийняття субєктивно значущих рішень і реалізації власного вибору вихованцями дитячого будинку.
