Redcrosse Knight, the protagonist of “The Faerie Queen,” stands for the virtue of Holiness-though he is the individual Christian fighting against evil. According to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, a hero is a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.
